Ms. Sweta Kakkad joined the Competition Commission of India (CCI) as a Member on 19th September, 2023. She is the first Member from the private sector to be part of the CCI. As a lawyer, she has more than two decades of rich experience in dispute resolution handling varied civil and corporate litigations for Indian and international clients in different fora. She has largely practiced in the Delhi High Court and has also handled several cases in the Supreme Court of India and other High Courts during the course of her professional journey. She has dealt with cases before various Tribunals like National Company Law Tribunal and National Company Law Appellate Tribunal, National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, Debts Recovery Tribunal and the CCI etc. She has handled cases relating to corporate insolvency resolution under Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, issues of oppression and mismanagement, winding up of companies and schemes of merger, amalgamation and compromise and arrangement under the Companies Act, abuse of dominant position under the Competition Act. She has handled contractual disputes under the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, Transfer of Property Act, Specific Relief Act etc. She worked with Mr. Amarjit Singh Chandhiok, Senior Advocate, erstwhile Amarchand & Mangaldas& Suresh A Shroff & Company. She seconded as Interim Chief Compliance Officer, WhatsApp LLC under the Information Technology (Guidelines for Intermediaries and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules of 2021. She was empaneled as a mediator with the Delhi High Court Mediation Centre and as an Arbitrator with Delhi International Arbitration Centre.
