Hariprasad Govinda is a Principal Economist in the Economic Research Bureau at the Competition Commission of South Africa (CCSA). Prior to joining the Commission, he was a Research Fellow at the CUTS institute for Regulation & Competition, New Delhi, and also served as Expert-Economic Matters at the Economics Division, Competition Commission of India, New Delhi. He received his PhD and MPhil in Economics from the Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, India and an MA Economics from the University of Hyderabad, India. He has published widely on competition law and economics in leading local and international journals and books, including the Journal of Industry, Competition and Trade, International Law and Economics, Foreign Trade Review, and Asian Journal of Research in banking and Finance.At CCSA, he has been involved in investigation of a number of mergers, cartels and enforcement cases apart from several projects including impact assessments, ex-post reviews, guidelines, policy briefs and internal capacity building trainings.He has contributed to the Commission’s ‘Concentration Tracker’ that was presented at the Parliament of the Country.Recently, he has led one of the Technical Team of the Commission’s ‘Online Intermediate Platform Market Inquiry’ and the Final Report was published on 31st July 2023.
